The Gitter-Yelen Art Study Center
Manyo'An Collection of Japanese Art
The Manyo'an Collection of Japanese Art focuses on Edo-period (1615–1868) works in the Zenga, Nanga, Rinpa, Maruyama-Shijo, Ukiyoe, and Eccentric styles with an increasing focus on 20th century paintings and ceramics.
Dr. Kurt A. Gitter began the Collection in the 1960's while working as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force on the island of Kyushu, Japan. Artworks for the Collection continue to be acquired through the Gitter-Yelen Art Study Center.
The Gitter-Yelen Art Study Center is an initiative of the Gitter-Yelen Foundation whose mission is to educate and encourage interest and scholarship in the fields of Japanese art and self-taught American art through direct viewing, exhibitions, digital media, publications, lectures, and symposia.
