意志を持って話をする丸太が、木の人形にされ、ピノッキオと名付けられた。ところがこのピノッキオは勉強と努力が嫌いで、すぐに美味しい話に騙される。青い髪の妖精や話をするコオロギなどの忠告にも耳を貸さず、幾度となく焼かれそうになったり、殺されそうになったり（現に一回死ぬが、生き返る）する。苦難を乗り越えて人間の少年へと変化するまでの逸話が書かれている。

Enjoyed your Pinocchio daruma, we have a Pinocchio in the US as well,
I call ours Duh-busha. Please note that no resemblance to Darumas is
implied or intended...
Pinocchio is a whole other matter, wooden head, long nose, etc.
